Garden House Nursery is an extension and remodelling of a children’s nursery using low embodied carbon materials.
In its March 2023 budget, the Government announced changes to childcare, radically expanding the free childcare provision to children over 9 months old.
The plans to extend free childcare to support more parents returning to work have been phased in since April 2024. With a particular focus on the under 2’s (as above 2 year olds are already covered by a similar scheme).
In response to this, Garden House Nursery, is looking to grow their under 2 provision.
The project encompasses a rear ground floor extension to create space to accommodate an additional 6 no. under 2 spaces and internal remodelling to improve current facilities for staff and children.
The nursery extension has been designed to be built using low embodied carbon materials and includes a green roof, along with playful green windows and timber shingles to reflect the nursery’s ethos. The proposal also includes an acoustic fence in the garden to improve any noise issues that may occur as a result of the additional spaces (although this is unlikely due to the management of the children’s use of the outdoor space). The project received planning permission earlier this year and will soon be starting on site.
