Wood Street Mews is a collection of six sustainable mews houses and a workspace & cafe on a constrained infill site in Walthamstow.

6 Sustainable mews houses are designed for the site, which has been owned and run as a timber yard since the early 1990’s by the same family and sits as a light industrial use within an otherwise residential area creating a number of  challenging neighbourly issues; of privacy, noise and overlooking.

Our design for the sustainable mews houses has worked with these challenges to create the six 2-5 bedroom homes. As well as the cafe and workspace together with improved public realm and a shared surface access.

This project is low in both embodied carbon and energy-in-use. Built from cross laminated timber and wrapped in bricks made from recycled aggregates. Each home uses air source heat pumps and solar panels for energy and has green roofs.    The project also increases the biodiversity of the site, benefits the neighbours by reducing the noise and disruption of the site whilst creating a new greener outlook.
